Other Opportunities for Giving
Aside
from membership dues and fees for specific events, YITH
relies on the generosity of members and friends for help
in defraying costs associated with the year-round activities
of the shul as well as underwriting expenses that improve
the facilities and programs we have to offer. A
number of individuals regularly approach the shul with
questions regarding the various avenues for giving. Often
these opportunities arise. To help sort through the process,
we have prepared a list of donation and sponsorship options
that reflect many of the Young Israel's ongoing needs.
We welcome all inquiries and are proud to accept and publicize
contributions of all sizes. In addition, the shul administration
is always available to discuss targeted donations for
specific purposes.
Kiddush
Each week the shul offers a light collation following
davening. Aside from grape juice and soda, we serve cookies,
crackers, vegetable and fruit platters, chummus and herring. Sponsorship
of the basic kiddush costs $180. $300 includes specialty salads and other such items, and $360 will add a Cholent to the mix. See the full menu for Kiddush and Seudah Sh'lishit here (PDF).Donations to the kiddush fund in any amount
are also welcome. Sign up for a Kiddush or Seudah Sh'lishit here (PDF).
Seudah Sh'lishit
Each week the shul offers a modest third meal following
Shabbat mincha. At seudah sh'lishit we serve rolls, salads,
pasta, and soda. Sponsorship of the basic seudah sh'lishit
costs $100. Upgrades may be available upon request. Donations
to the seudah sh'lishit fund in any amount are also welcome.
Donations of Sifrei Kodesh (sacred texts)
As we grow as a shul, we have an ongoing need for more
and/or different books and sefarim for davening and study.
These would include siddurim, chumashim, machzorim, and
megillot. We are also open to suggestions for specific
translations or uses. Currently, the shul is looking to
purchase a number of siddurim for use in shiva homes,
rachmana litzlan. Please contact the shul office so that
we can work with you and the book distributors to accommodate
your request. Of course, we are happy to include bookplates
to honor or memorialize loved ones. Lastly, we are hoping
to accumulate funds to maintain and repair torah scrolls
as needed.
Beit Midrash Fund
The Young Israel is proud to be a shul which values and
engages in the traditional learning and study of Jewish
texts. Our beit midrash is open to all for this purpose,
and our members and friends are always encouraged to take
advantage of opportunities for learning Torah. We are
regularly on the lookout for opportunities to improve
the selection of volumes in our beit midrash, as well
as to upgrade its physical facilities. Please contact
the shul office or the Beit Midrash Committee chairperson
Marc Baker directly at 404-728-1891, for more information.
Sisterhood
Young Israel's vibrant and active Sisterhood is continually
involved in projects that benefit our shul and community.
Sisterhood currently offers cards for all occasions; they
cost $18 - please contact Elizabeth Cohen at elileigh@hotmail.com
or at 404-325-0984 to place your order. Sisterhood is
also raising funds for a fun, exciting, and safe children's
room and playground. Please contact the shul office or
Sisterhood co-President Joyce Gilmer at (404) 633-6458
for more on this opportunity.
Wall of Honor
Bricks are available to honor or memorialize loved ones.
Each Brick costs $180. The shul is also looking into obtaining
a more traditional yahrtzeit board and plaques. Please
contact the shul office for more information.
Sponsorship Opportunities
The Young Israel is always grateful when sponsors step
forward and undertake to defray what might otherwise be
a significant challenge for the shul. This has allowed
us to offer special and unique programming - most recently
we had an eminent professor from Yeshiva University spend
Shabbat with us as a scholar-in-residence. We hope to
expand these opportunities in the future and are constrained
only by the creativity and generosity of our sponsors.
Some upcoming sponsorship opportunities might be - but
are by no means limited to: Adult Learning Institute classes,
the Pesach Seder, and the forthcoming Membership Directory.
We are also seeking sponsors for this summer's Yeshiva
University summer kollel program.
General Fund
From time to time the shul faces unforeseen costs and
keeps funds aside for such "rainy day" needs.
Even unspecified donations thus serve an important purpose
and are always welcome. |
