Rabbi Michael Broyde

Rabbi Michael Broyde was ordained by Yeshiva University Yore-Yore Yadin-Yadin and has been the Rabbi of the Young Israel since its founding. He is also a Professor of Law at Emory University. He has published more than 60 articles in various aspects of Jewish law, and a number of articles in the area of Federal courts, including an article in the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy on the impeachment process. His first book, The Pursuit of Justice and Jewish Law was published by Yeshiva University Press and his second, Human Rights and Judaism by Aronson Publishing House. He is the author of a recent article in the Connecticut Law Review entitled "Cloning People: A Jewish View," and a recent book entitled Marriage, Divorce and the Abandoned Wife in Jewish Law: A Conceptual Understanding of the Agunah Problems in America published by Ktav. His current work is focusing on areas of Jewish Family law, and commercial law, and he recently completed a detailed mathematical analysis of Jewish lunar-solar calendar, and its impact on notions of 'ease of use' as a mandate of a legal system.

Rabbi Broyde has been called by the Yeshiva University Review "the most prolific scholar of comparative law and Halakhah working in the United States today, and is considered by many to have done the best work."

Michael Broyde's primary interests outside the halls of academia and the Young Israel are in Jewish law as practiced by its adherents; as one of four members of the Beth Din of America, he is frequently consulted by many different Rabbinical colleagues concerning the details of Jewish law.

Rabbi Broyde can be reached at Emory at voice: 404 727-7546; fax: 404 727-3374; email: mbroyde@emory.edu or on his cell phone in case of urgent need at 917-208-5011.
